Acrylic solid surface has been valued for its exceptional versatility, durability, and its unique ability to be formed into almost unlimited shapes. Recently it has been recognized as a sustainable, eco-friendly material. We will explain what makes a solid surface product eco-friendly, including recycled content, life cycle assessment and contribution to LEED. We will also discuss the process of thermoforming and fabricating solid surface material. We will evaluate the design potential of the material and provide examples of where this eco-friendly surface can be used. Finally, we will describe how solid surface was used in three case studies, from concept and visualization through design and fabrication.
